FIRST OF THE LAST MASSES
Post-Standard, The (Syracuse, NY) - July 1, 2007

Author: Staff reports
Emotional parishioners on Saturday attended the final Mass at St. Mary Church, 6437 E. Seneca Turnpike, Jamesville. It was the first of 40 closures scheduled by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse over the next few years.

St. Mary was established 1899. The church became a mission of Holy Cross Church, 4112 E. Genesee St., DeWitt, in October.

After the Mass, a procession with cross and other sacred items left the church for Holy Cross, where records, assets and debts of St. Mary will be transferred.

Holy Cross will welcome transferring parishioners during a 9:15 a.m. service July 8.
